Seventy percent wished to sell within ten years. More than half of Australia’s private and family businesses are planning to sell out over the next 10 years. But there is a problem - while 74% said they'd quit now if approached, less than 50% had made plans for it. And it could turn out to be an over-crowded market, with more "for sale" signs than buyers. The Age newspaper reported that less than 13% of owners actually have a saleable business and many walk away from a lifelong commitment with little or nothing to show for it and certainly without selling for the potential they have developed.
